Cosmeceutical products

Until recently it was believed that the skin was an impenetrable barrier. Today we know that product ingredients can penetrate the skin depending on their molecular size and chemical components. By definition, a cosmetic product remains on the surface of the skin but does not reach the skin's dermis and is not absorbed by the blood capillaries. Cosmetic products are formulated for beautification of the skin and make no drug claims. Products that penetrate the dermal layer are classified as pharmaceuticals and are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Advances in science and technology have given us a new classification of cosmetic ingredients called "cosmeceuticals". This classification combines cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients, bridging the gap between traditional cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. Cosmeceuticals are formulated with specific characteristics that penetrate and remain in the epidermis to perform definite functions, such as: managing the way melanin is diffused in the skin cell, facilitating water retention and neutralizing free radical reactions which reduce the affects of aging, suppressing bacteria which causes acne, and calming inflammatory responses in sensitive skin.

Institut' DERMed products are cosmeceuticals formulated using Chiral technology. Chiral, pronounced "ki-rul", is an advanced process that isolates the left and right sides of molecules to correct the way they fit into the skin's receptors. All cell receptors in the body are either left handed or right handed; therefore, substances that do not match the cell's receptors do not penetrate. Chirally corrected molecules are processed to fit the skin cell's receptors increasing product penetration. Our products are effective because they are formulated with potent concentrations of cosmeceuticals, use natural base carriers with no chemical additives or perfumes, and are developed using Chiral technological advances.
